My Background & AI Passion
My name is Julian, and I’m the founder of EnglishReach™.
To be completely honest, running an English testing platform was
never a lifelong dream of mine. Over the years, I’ve worked as a driver,
marketer, vehicle inspector, and even charity fundraiser. My passion for
teaching really took off after I became a CELTA-qualified EFL teacher.
I’ve always loved the nuances of the English language. Recently, as AI
tools began taking off, I realized how powerful technology can be for
learning and study. By blending my lifelong passion for English
with my keen interest in AI, I built EnglishReach™.
Understanding the Journey
As a non-native speaker myself, I know how much practicing and perfecting the English language means to you. Earning a Cambridge Certificate is a great way to celebrate all those years of hard work. It also gives you the official proof you need—whether for a potential employer, a university, or simply for your own personal satisfaction.
I passed my Cambridge C1 Exam back in 2007 in Bucharest. I still remember how rewarding that felt. Back then, study resources were scarce and the internet was still in its early days.
To be completely frank, I barely passed with the minimum grade—the Speaking section saved me! The exam can certainly be challenging, but don't let that discourage you. You don't have to get an A to pass, and in reality, most students don't. I have no doubt that even native speakers would struggle with certain sections of the exam, so bear that in mind going in! Practice before, as much as you can, and go into the exam room with confidence!
Why the Cambridge Certificate Matters
So, what exactly can the CAE Certificate do for you? Well, it depends...
In my case, it unlocked university admission in the UK. When I enrolled in a Marketing Management program in Birmingham back in 2008, I needed to prove my English proficiency. Most European students used IELTS, which is widely recognized across the UK. I hadn't taken IELTS yet, but I managed to get in using my CAE Certificate alone.
As a quick refresher on the difference between the two Cambridge-backed options:
-
IELTS: Valid for two years, awards a band score, and is primarily used for university admissions, visas, and immigration.
-
CAE (Cambridge C1): Valid for life, making it ideal for long-term career proof, resume building, and professional credentials.
Final Words
As you take this next step in your English journey, I wish you all the best with your prep work. If you take the leap and put in the effort, I have absolutely no doubt that you will pass. Remember that EnglishReach™ is always here to help you with mock tests and tutorials built out of love for the language and in support of our students!
